Open air crusaders; a story of the Elizabeth McCormick open air school, together with a general account of open air school workin Chicago and a chapter on school ventilation . permitted to help in setting the tablefor dinner and all in rotation assisted in waiting on table. Theteacher and the matron presided and before the year was over, thetable manners of the children showed remarkable improvement. Every child is given a cold bath every morning. The bathusually lasts about ten seconds, after which the child is given a vigor-ous rub with a Turkish towel. As a usual thing, the children objectto the baths at first, but in a very few days learn to like it and strangeas it may seem, object to going without it. At the beginning oflast year a general order was issued that in case it was found that achild did not react properly after a cold bath, the baths for this childwere to be discontinued. There was not a single child, however, ofthe entire forty-nine, for whom it was necessary to discontinue thebaths. Cold tub bathing is an entirely different proposition from acold shower and is probably not suitable for the type of child whoattends the open air school. 52. H
