Brown Corporation plant at La Tuque, John Railways. It is at the head of the navigable waters of the St. Maurice and promises to be a flourishing lumber centre, being favor- ably located for the northern operations for the lower part of the district. Prominent Three Rivers Firms At Three Rivers are located the immense pulp and saw mills of the Wayagamack Pulp and Paper Company, whose sawmills alone turn out over 30,000,000 feet annually, and whose up-to-date plant was fully described in a former issue of the Canada Lumberman. The Gres Falls Company, operating a large mill at Three Rivers, cut over 50,000,000 feet, which is converted into pulpwood and lum- ber. Unfortunately, the sawmill of this concern was burnt to the ground several weeks ago, but plans are already under way for the reconstruction on a larger scale than before. The concern is a sub- sidiary company of the Union Bag & Paper Company, who also oper- ate mills in the district. Another large industry at Three Rivers is the St. Maurice Lum- ber Company, which manufactures about 50,000,000 feet into lumber and pulpwood. J. H. Dansereau operates a modern mill at this point and this year will cut 10,000,000 feet of lumber. The Burrill Lumber Company also operate a mill at Three Rivers, with a capacity of 2,000,000 feet annually. At the present time this territory furnishes a cut of lumber and pulpwood floated and driven on the St. Maurice River and tributaries equal to about 330 to 350 million feet board measure, of which no less than 175 million feet is manufactured in Three Rivers. Of this large cut about 100 million feet is being cut for the export trade in the European market this Please note that these images are extracted from scanned page images that may have been digitally enhanced for readabil
