Trilobite fossil. Close-up of the head of the fossilised Trevoropyge prorotundifrons trilobite, showing the eyes (centre left and right). The trilobites are an extinct group of marine arthropods with a hard, segmented shell that is divided into 3 sections. They developed one of the first advanced visual systems in the animal kingdom. T. prorotundifrons had large eyes composed of around 700 separate lenses which gave it an excellent field of vision. It lived from the Lower Ordovician to the Upper Devonian period (around 505-360 million years ago). Found in Morocco.
