It will be noted that the chief and consulting engineerreport to the general manager, and that the chief engi-neer of construction and the principal assistant engineerreport to the chief engineer. This principal assistantengineer is in charge of maintenance of way and hasnine officers reporting to him, six of whom are engineers;viz., signal, bridge, maintenance-of-way (track and road-bed), miscellaneous work, designing, water supply. Thearchitect, general roadmaster (track), and superintend-ent of timber-treating plants having direct responsibilityfor the execution of work report to him directly supervisors of bridges and buildings and the assist-ant engineers (division engineers) report directly to thedivision superintendent on current operation, and to theassistant engineer of maintenance of way and bridgeengineers
