Lonsdale cemetery was named after the Earl of Lonsdale who recruited a Pals Battalion the 11th Border regiment. They attacked the Leipzig salient on 1 July was one of the new battalions raised by Lord Kitchener, and called Pals because men from the same city or town, and sometimes professions fought together
