In 1835he removed to New York City, where he engaged inbusiness as a contractor, erecting many importantbuildings, and later he went to California as a mas-ter mechanic in the employ of the general govern-ment, assisting in the building operations at thenavy yard on Mare Island. He then returned toNew York City, but having received a favorableimpression of Pike county as a place of residence,while visiting in Greene township at one time, hefinally decided to locate there. In i860 he pur-chased a farm in that township, where he spent hisremaining years, his death occurring March 30,.
