RHODODENDRON Rosebay—One of the most beautiful flowering shrubs known. During the blooming season, May and June, the plants are literally covered with the most delicately colored flowers. They are most effective when planted in groups or beds. By grouping several colors of the different varieties, an ef- fect can be produced that is not obtain- able with any other shrub. They will grow in any good soil, but a sheltered situation will give the best results. In hot. dry weather soak the ground about once a week. A protection of leaves and brush during the winter will be beneficial. RHUS Sumach Purple Fringe or Smoke Tree (R. Cot- inus)—A much-admired shrub, for its curious fringe or hairlike flowers, which cover the whole surface of the plant in mid-summer.
