Lord North was Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1770 to 1782 and held a number of other cabinet posts, includingHome Secretary and Chancellor of the Exchequer. He led Great Britain through most of the American War of Independence. This portrait was painted whilst he was a young man in Rome on the “Grand Tour”.
