He superintended theconstruction of the railroad at Salida. CHAFFEE the business of the place was removea, and its growthwas thenceforth slower. The railroad company in1886 had extensive buildings and works; the townwas well watered, and had a bank, an opera-house,churches, schools, good hotels, a public reading-room,.
