May 3, 1919 HARDWARE AND METAL 51 William Hyslop, Jr. Victim of Influenza Following an illness of only a week,vith influenza, the death occurred at hishome in Toronto of William Hyslop, Jr.,president and manager of Hyslop Bros.,Ltd., bicycle and automobile dealers, To-. The Late William Hyslop, Jr. ronto. Mr. Hyslop, who was 48 yearsof age, was born in Hamilton, Ont. Aftergraduating- from Upper Canada Collegein Toronto he went into the bicycle busi-ness with his father in 1888, later goinginto business with his brother. Thepresent business at 12 Shuter Street wasestablished in 1900. Not only was Mr. Hyslop known asa successful business man, but in hisday he was one of the greatest amateurathletes in the country, holding in 1899all championships for bicycle riding foiall distances between one quarter andfive miles. In the same year he held theCanadian swimming championship for100 yards. After he retired from activeparticipation in athletics, Mr. Hyslopretained his connection with sport bothhere and in the United States, belongingto many famous sporting organizationsand clubs. During his later years Mr. Hyslop be-came an ardent golf enthusiast. He be-longed to the Lambton Golf Club, Na-tional Club. Ontario Jock
