In 1773,an engine house was erected for the Sun engine on the lot onNorth George street, adjoining the dwelling of John Hay, latelythe entrance to Herman & Hakes livery. On occasion of fire, thebell in the belfry of the German Reformed Church was soundeduntil July 4, 1776, after which the bell in the Court House towerwas rung.
