Belitung Island is off the East cost of Sumatra in the Java Sea. In the past it belonged to Britain and then to the Dutch. Its principal products are pepper and tin. Belitung is not often visited, but it has some great white sand beaches with granite rocks, and good snorkeling. It was our last stop on our circumnavigation of Sumatra, and, as usual, the locals pulled out all the stops to provide hospitality and entertainment for us.
