Magnetic control of a mouse's nervous system, conceptual illustration. Neurobiologists have developed a way to modulate cell components in the brain so that they respond to a magnetic field. This technique, known as magnetogenetics, has advantages over other neuromodulation techniques as it doesn't require the magnet to be implanted in the brain or require the animal to be tethered an energy source. Here it is shown to cause a mouse to go against it's instincts, away from the cheese.
