There are two extensive dams here, which cannotfail to arrest the tourists attention. One is 330 feet long and twenty-nine feethigh; the other 750 feet by ten feet. A stretch of five miles and Black Rapids,where there is one lock, is reached. The dam is 300 feet long and twelve feethigh, and over it is passing continually a film or veil of water which has a verybeautiful effect in the sunlight. Hogs Back is four miles nearer Ottawa.
