The virtual absence of children from these cemeteries suggests that they were perhaps not the cemeteries of a normal civilian population, or were used by a particular section of the community. Both decapitated and prone burials are recorded at other Roman sites, most of them late, in England and both practices occur in Anglo-Saxon cemeteries. Some are recorded only as isolated burials, while others occur in small groups or large cemeteries. Appendix VI (p. 184) is a gazetteer of known instances with references.
