Gatwick Express train at Gatwick Airport station.
Gatwick Express train at Gatwick Airport station. This, like the majority of trains on this service, is a Class 442 Wessex Electric (5WES), which replaced an early, more streamlined and futuristic-looking type of train. Though rather old (built 1988-89), these trains are quite fast and comfortable. One of them holds the world speed record for a train powered by a third rail (174km/h or 108mph).
