Vintage photo of British Royal Navy officer and polar explorer Captain Robert Falcon Scott (1868 - 1912). Scott led two expeditions to the Antarctic - the Discovery Expedition of 1901 - 1904 and the Terra Nova Expedition of 1910 - 1913. Captain Scott, Captain Lawrence "Titus" Oates, Dr Edward Wilson, Lieutenant Henry Robertson "Birdie" Bowers and Petty Officer Edgar Evans famously reached the geographic South Pole in January 1912 but found that Norwegian Roald Amundsen had beaten them there by just over a month.
