This small picture is a copy of the original in the possession of theDuke of Wellington, which was said to have been painted by Correggiofor an apothecary, to whom he was indebted, for four scudi. Thereare four examples of Correggio in the National Gallery ; the best isNo. 23, in Gallery XV. (sketched on p. 85); his greatest works are tobe seen in Parma, his native place.
