Healing pool in the River Fillan (Dochart) associated with Irish Early Christian missionary St Fillan who built a chapel here in Strathfillan.

Deep, healing pool in the River Fillan (Dochart) associated with Irish Early Christian missionary St Fillan who built a chapel here. Robert the Bruce established a priory nearby in the C14th in Fillan's honour & carried his arm relic to victory at the Battle of Bannockburn. Up to the early 1800s the healing pool, priory remains & St Fillan's bell (the Bernane) were used in cures for madness (mentally ill were cast into pool from a rock platform) but the pool lost its powers after a bull was thrown in. Alder pollen forms a swirl on the surface of the water during a time exposure. On the West Highland Way.
