A Samurai setting and atmosphere at Nishi Honganji temple, Kyoto, Temple is a spacious temple founded in 888 It was originally the summer home of the Emperor, who along with his retinue would decamp to this western part of Kyoto to escape, ever so slightly, the torrid heat of summer. Nishi Honganji temple or, the Eastern Temple of the Original Vow, is one of two dominant sub-sects of Shin Buddhism in Japan. Part of the temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
