Thefirst ladies building, near the site of the present, was erected and occu-pied in 1845. It was a neat edifice of briclv, seventy-five by thirty-sevenfeet, four stories high, with a tower, and cost .1ti6,000. In the earlymorning of Feb. 29, 1872, it was burned. Measures were immediatelytaken to rebuild, and the present beautiful structure was completed and. ??^./^S
