Ovary cancer. Light micrograph of a section through a Krukenberg tumour (down centre) of the ovary. This is a secondary cancer that spreads (metastasises) from the digestive system, often affecting both ovaries. It contains 'signet ring' cells with the nucleus at the edge (two at right) due to accumulation of mucus in the cytoplasm. This is a rare condition that typically affects older women. Treatment involves surgical removal and therapy for the original tumour.
