Fishers are harvesting pangas fish from a farm at Satkhira, Bangladesh. Pangas is one of the major cultured fish species which is popular for farming.


Pangas (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) has been emerging as an economically very important species to South-East Asian aquaculture. It is particularly important for their fast growth, year-round production and high productivity. Originally, P. hypophthalmus is a catfish of the Mekong delta being recognized as the most important and largest inland fishery in the world. This species has become an important aquaculture species in Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Bangladesh and China
