Panoramic view of Petanoi (or "Petani") beach in Kefalonia island, Ionian Sea, Greece

Petanoi beach is located at the western end of the island, in Paliki Peninsula and it is known since the Homeric Era. Talking about Homer, although most of the scients identify Homeric Ithaca with modern-day Ithaca island, there are some scients who believe that Homeric Ithaca is modern-day Kefalonia. Some of them believe that Ulisses' kingdom was located somewhere in Paliki Peninsula, while others believe that it was located, somewhere between Poros and Skala, on the southeast side of Kefalonia.
