View NNW of Dunino Den Pictish ceremonial site, North East Fife, Scotland, UK: a rock basin & footprint top the Bell Craig head-shaped outcrop (R).

View NNW of Dunino Den Pictish ceremonial site, North East Fife, Scotland, UK, a rock basin & footprint cut into the level surface of Bell Craig outcrop rising above Dunino Burn. Traditionally associated with pagan rituals of the Druids & the inauguration ceremonies of Pictish kings this atmospheric site in woods W of Dunino church still attracts a wide range of 'worshippers': offerings are left at the rock basin, the remains of campfires in this deep green hollow between the sandstone cliffs. The outcrop has the appearance of a huge head in profile with a smaller full face on its craggy brow. A large Celtic cross has been carved on a nearby cliff face, perhaps an attempt to Christianize a powerful pagan place.
