An aggregate of manganotantalite (manganese tantalum oxide) crystals. Manganotantalite is usually found mixed with ferrotantalite (iron tantalum oxide), manganocolumbite (manganese niobium oxide) and ferrocolumbite (iron niobium oxide). Together these form the principal ores of the transition metals tantalum and niobium. This specimen measures 7 x 4 cm and was found in Alto de Giz, Brazil.
