The thyroidgland is composed of two ovallobes situated immediatelybehind the larynx, beside thefirst two rings of the lobes appear to be in-dependent, but close exam-ination shows them to beunited by an intermediateportion, the isthmus, whichpasses across the anterior faceof the trachea. They shouldbe excised and removed. The parotid glands shouldnext be removed and the gut-tural pouches laid open. The tongue, larynx, trachea, pharynx, oesophagus, andsubmaxillary glands should be removed en masse. Beforedoing this, however, Slenons duct should be examined,.
