A late 19th century illustration of the town of Bagnères-de-Bigorre, a commune of the Hautes-Pyrénées Department in the Occitanie region of southwestern France. The town was known in antiquity as Aquae Convenarum ("Waters of the Comminges"). Its present name similarly means "Baths" of Bigorre, because this area of southwestern France once inhabited by the Bigorri, an ancient tribe from about 400 AD.
