In that year his "History of the Rise of the Dutch Republic" was issued, and was at once recognised as the work of a master regards the questions still in dispute between the two Governments of the United States and Great Britain, Mr. Motley will of course abide by his instructions; but we feel quite sure that he will desire, not less earnestly than either of his maintain and strengthen the friendship which should ever join the two nations - or rather the two political branches of one great English nation - in kindly affection towards each other.
