Light dependent resistor. This component is a sensor usually made from cadmium sulphide (CdS). Light levels affect the electrical resistance of CdS. The more light falling on the resistor, the lower its resistance and the greater the electrical current. Light dependent resistors (LDRs) are used in smoke detectors, automatic lighting systems and alarm systems.
