Society, the Botanical Club and the Botanical Society of Pennsylvania in the garden of Dr. W. S. Pilling, in Pel- ham, Saturday afternoon, June 17. The garden was lovely, presenting a natural picture that gave great pleasure. The ceremonies consisted of an address of welcome by Dr. Pilling, a talk on some of the many flowers in bloom by Alex- ander Mcllwee, landscape gardener of Fairmount park, and a stroll through the garden under the guidance of the gardener, Charles Pettiford. The fea- tures of the garden were: A beautifully kept lawn, shaded by rare trees; the evergreens, an archway, covered by Dorothy Perkins in full bloom; a foun- tainette, a rock garden, larkspurs, Can- terbury bells and the finely colored sweet Williams. Baseball. A feeling of satisfaction pervades the floral world that properly organized baseball is assured. The schedule cov- ers a season of seven weeks from Thurs- day, July 6, until Monday, August 21, inclusive. Each of the eight teams is scheduled to play home and travel games with every other team, fourteen games in all. The manager of each team is asked to file a list of his players with the secretary of the Florists' Club, Eobert Kift, before July 6, such list to include the names only of those who are en- rolled to play for their respective teams. Various Notes. Joseph M. Kennedy succeeded Wil- liam C. Lynch as manager of the Phila- delphia Growers' Cut Flower Market June 17. No reason is given for the retirement of Mr. Lynch, who has man- aged the market since it was organized last fall. Mr. Kennedy, who has been with the market as second in command, is receiving many good wishes on his promotion. George Aeuglc, manager
