Monument to the Berlin Airlift (Luftbrücke) in Platz der Luftbrücke, near Tempelhof Airport
At the height of the Berlin blockade in 1948-9, food supplies were flown by the western powers into Tempelhof Airport for the West Berlin population. This memorial commemorates the seventy airmen and eight ground crew who died in crashes during the blockade. The monument represents the three air corridors used to approach the airport. The terminal buildings of Tempelhof can be seen in the background.
