Mauritius. North is at top. Satellite image showing the island nation of Mauritius. This country lies in the Indian Ocean (blue) off the southeastern coast of Africa and about 870 kilometres east of Madagascar. In addition to the island of Mauritius (large, centre), the Republic includes the islands of Cargados Carajos, Rodrigues, Tromelin and the Agalega Islands. Mauritius is part of the Mascarene Islands, which include the French island of Reunion 170 km to the southwest and the island of Rodrigues 570 km to the east. Image compiled from data acquired by the LANDSAT 5 and 7 satellites, in 2000.
