Fairy-tale Mermaid encounters sea-dragon in vintage engraving
This 1900 or 1901 painting by Hermann Hendrich (1854--1931) is typical of his skill; he loved to paint fantastical scenes from operas. Here we see a mermaid swimming towards a mighty sea-dragon; in the background we see through a natural stone arch a distant castle or palace in white stone.
