Xanthoma nodules on legs. Close-up of xanthoma skin nodules on the legs of a patient with hyperlipidemia (raised fat levels in the blood). Xanthomas are fat deposits often associated with hyperlipidaemia or high cholesterol. Treatment aims to lower the lipid (fat) levels in the blood by a diet low in cholesterol and high in polyunsaturated fat, and by use of cholesterol-lowering drugs.
