As soon as everything had been connectedup, we started the engine, and put the car onfirst gear, allowing it to idle slowly, so as topermit a careful watch to be kept on all partsof the apparatus, everything appeared to beworking as it should, and we then stopped theengine so as to permit a careful inspectionto be made of all running parts.
