It isdelightfully situated in a fertile valley, shut in by moun-tains on every side, and has a temperature combining thewarmth of the hot country with that of the temperateregion, as it lies at an altitude of 6,365 feet above the only is it celebrated as the point where the empireof Maximilian was finally overthrown, but as that wherethe treaty with the United States, in 1848, was ratified bythe Mexican MATIAS ROMERO. On the 19th of February, Maximilian reached Queretarowith reinforcements, received by the army and by thepopulace with enthusiasm.
