And then, when the little ones reach theage of eight or ten years, considerations of health, morals, education,spiritual profit and future prospect, demand that they permanentlyleave that country and make their home in a better land. Thisusually leads to their separation from father and mother for severalyears at the most critical period of their lives, A good Providencewatches over them, it is true ; and missionaries children, as a generalthing, fare as well and become as useful as those of any other class ofChristians. But the trial, nevertheless, is a sore one to both oldand young; nor can words well portray the anxiety which it producesor the tears which it CENTIPEDE [aboiii Ufe-size). Some churches are providing American Homes for the children offoreign missionaries who remain in the field, with the design of fur-nishing these little ones all the comforts and advantages of a Christianfamily at a figure within the ability of the parents to pay. Suchhomes are usually established where there are good church and schoolprivileges and, when properly conducted, are no doubt of greatbenefit to all concerned. But the separation of brothers and sisters,as they grow older, and tlieir accommodation under different roofs,though perhaps necessary, adds one more to the long list of sucliexperiences and, if possible, should be avoided.
