A great change has taken place in business conditions the last week. Last week at this time outdoor flowers were still in abundance, while roses at the greenhouses were in glut proportions. Stormy and cold weather, along with the fact that rose growers are topping for Christmas, had brought a different story by the end of this week. The storm and frost took all the out- side stock and this increased the call for greenhouse stock considerably. Topping for Christmas and the stormy weather cut the supply of roses almost in two, with the result that roses are cleaning up every day and in some cases it is necessary to turn down orders. Prices on roses in this section so far this fall have been about twenty-five per cent lower then they were last year, up to this time, and it is only natural to look for a change in prices soon. The quality of roses was never better for this time of the year. Columbia and Dunlop are the favorites and the supply of these is unable to meet the demand. Dunlop is especially fine. Ophelia has been in large supply, but the steady call for these makes it profitable. Butterfly appears in small quantities, but always finds ready buyers. Prices range from $4 to $15 per hundred. Carnations are beginning to come on, but as yet the supply is small, with the consequence that there are not nearly enough to meet the requirements. The stems are somewhat short, but an im- provement in this condition is looked for soon. Chrys
