Portrait of Mademoiselle Marie-Anne Adelaide Le Normand, c. 1793. Dumont was a leading painter of miniature portraits, working before and after the French Revolution (1789-99). The sitter, shown with a black owl, was an influential fortune-teller consulted by revolutionary leaders and Empress Josephine, wife of Napoleon.
