Tesla induction motor. Illustration of one of the original induction motor (motor with a short-circuit rotor) demonstrated by Serb-US physicist and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) in his historic lecture before the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) at Columbia University, New York, USA, on 16 May 1888. The operation of the motor is based on Tesla's design that created the rotating magnetic field using polyphase alternating currents. Tesla's research led to key advances in areas such as alternating current power generation and transmission. A type of transformer is named for him (the Tesla Coil), as is the SI unit of magnetic flux density.
