From the product of these two heads, I rejected the latest and poorest heads, using only the best and earliest for replanting. The improvement made by the process has resulted in increasing the number of kernels abreastin the spikeletfrom THREE to FOUR, with the fifth kernel commencing to make its appearance. The length of the head is in- creased about one third, and the berry much improved in uniformity of color and hardness.
