Snout rounded or obtusely pointed, 3 times in length of head ; eye o\ (young) to 6 times in length of head, interorbital width 2-f to 3 times; mouth subinferior, its width 3^ to 4 times in length of head; lips well developed, lower continuous across chin; two barbels on each side, subequal, nearly twice as long as eye. Dorsal IV 9, equally distant from eye or occiput and from root of caudal, border feebly concave; last simple ray strong, bony, not serrated, \ to -| length of head (nearly as long as head in young).
