Ruben; Twelve sons of Jacob. Ruben, the first son of Jacob. A boar stands next to him, symbolizing the unchastity that Ruben characterized by having community with his father's concubine. Ruben points to the statues of Venus and Cupid, the gods of love and lust in the Roman Pantheon. They form a fountain together. The relief on the water basin of the fountain shows Ruben together with the concubine. All these attributes refer to the Jakobs blessing from Ruben in Genesis 49. The print is part of a series about the twelve sons of Jacob and Patriarchs of Israel and has a Dutch and Latin caption.
