The writer, a son ofColonel C. K. Thomas, on whose farm the most of the fightingof the 9th was done, is now a resident of Berryville, Va., in thevery section so familiar to the members of the Ninth, where heholds several hundred acres of that most fertile land, and forseveral years he has represented the counties of Clarke andWarren in the Virginia Legislature. At the same time he holds,from Governor J. Hoge Tyler, the position of colonel of cavalryon the latters staff. Colonel S. S. Thomas tells his own storyin the following interesting manner:.
