Overview of the monastery Nea Moni on the Provateio Mountain in the centre of Chios island. Nea Moni is a monastery on the island of Chios, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was built in the 11th century by Byzantine emperor Constantine IX Monomachos and his wife, Empress Zoe. The Katholikon (main church ) is dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary.
