Biotite mineral samples. This phyllosilicate mineral contains potassium, iron and magnesium, as well as fluorides, within an aluminosilicate lattice. It forms crystalline sheets and flakes, and is usually a greenish dark brown. Here, flakes of pure biotite have been laid out on a sheet of paper, and a ruler (bottom right) is shown for scale.
