There was a good demand for flowers for St. Valentine's day. Had more advertising- been done, it probably would have been better. However, most of the florists required additional delivery trucks and were quite satisfied with the trade they did. Some fine roses are being cut by the growers in the city, as well as west and north of it. They have fine stems and beautiful flowers. Various Notes. A box social of the Toronto Ketail Florists' Club was called for February 14, but the florists were busy and a rush meeting of the executives was called to postpone it. It is likely that the box social will be held on the regu- lar meeting night, March 14. Carl Grobba, of Mimico, is cutting some fine lilies of the valley and bulbous stock. The bulbous stock is fine and it looks as if he would have the finest Easter lilies he has yet had. The regular meeting of the Garden- ers' and Florists' Association will be held at 22 College street, Monday, March 21. The executives of the Canadian Flo- rists' and Gardeners' Association met at Peterborough, February 21, to con- sider plans for the next convention. It is expected that it will be held at Peter- borough. Plans are still being carried forward for the F. T. D. convention to be held here next fall, and visitors are assured that they will be well taken care of. It will be one of the best conventions yet held, if work and plans count for anything. All that the committees de- sire is that every florist in the United States plan to be represented here at that time. J. J. NEWPORT, R. I. V. A. Vanicek, of Middletown, has re- turned from several months' visit in Europe. Oscar Schultz has booked more out- door work for this spring than in sev- eral years previously. W. H.
