A memorial stone marking the spot near where Ft. Lt. Reginald Frank Rimmer was killed on active service 0n 27th September 1940. He was flying Hurricane V6282 which was shot down in combat with M109s. His plane exploded over Franchise Manor Farm, Burwash. The stone describes him as "One of Churchill's Few" and he was killed in action during The Battle of Britain. He is buried in Grange Cemetery, Hoylake, Cheshire. The memorial was originally just a brass plaque. In 2013 the owner of Franchise Farm, with the help of Shoreham Aircraft Museum funded the present memorial stone. The stone was unveiled on 27th September 2014, 74 years to the day that Reginal Rimmer lost his life. The event was attended by more that 50 members of his family. A Hawker Hurricane from Bigin Hill performed a flypast during the service.
