Back into Cits and theAmerican Legion is the workof Ernest Hamlin Baker. Itshows a trio of national ser-vice men who have just leftthe demobilization campwhere they placed an ex infront of their respective sailor, doughboy and marine desig-nations. Behind them armsare stacked, steel helmets, sailor hat, cartridge belt andbayonet scabbard, olive draband navy blue garments aretossed aside in one pile—thewar is over sure enough!Fairly radiant with the thrillwhich come from new civilianclothes, the three young vet-erans are hiking out at betterthan 128 to the minute andthey are heading in the rightdirection—straight into theAmerican Legion. The other two posters were Lets sticKtogether. drawn by Adolph TreidlerIn the Buddies posterwhich shows Uncle Sam, inwell pleased and comfortablepride, leaning on the emblemof the American Legion, theartist has seized upon an ideathat conveys an instant im-pression to every man whowas in the service. For ofall colloquial words which thewar brought into commonusage, Buddy has the rich-est associations. Every en-listed man and many officershad pals in the service, com-rades whose companionshipunder all sorts of hardshipsadded new luster to the mean-ing of friendship. All thatwas finest in such associationsis summarized in the captionBuddies. The third poster showsthe simple service chevrons—two gold for those whowent overseas and two silverfor the other two millionwhose orders kept them inthe United States. These posters will be usedby local posts to assist themembership campaign.
